Paper acceptance criteria and instructions to authors

Lingua Montenegrina publishes primarily the results of original philological and cultural scientific and professional research, as well as preliminary communications and reviews and professional papers. In addition, book reviews are published, as well as reviews of journals and conference proceedings.

Papers that have been previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere may not be accepted. Where the paper submitted contains previously published materials, the author shall quote such content or mark it in another manner.

If the paper submitted has resulted from a research project or had previously been verbally presented at a conference (bearing the same or similar title), detailed data about the project / conference shall be provided in a footnote at the start of the paper.

Authors shall explicitly indicate the source of all the materials and ideas authored by others in their work, regardless of their format and whether such materials had previously been published or not. The Editorial Board shall decide on paper acceptance and classify the papers accepted for publication on the basis of the evaluation performed by the reviewers. Objectivity and anonymity of this process are ensured through a double-blind review process, where the reviewers do not know the identity of the authors and vice versa.

Lingua Montenegrina is published in Montenegrin or another Slavonic language, as well as in one of the main internationally spoken languages (English, German, French, etc).

  1. Original scientific papers contain unpublished results of original theoretical or practical research, presented in such a manner that data provided and the analysis carried out may be verified.
  2. Preliminary communications contain material or scientific data that require urgent publication.
  3. Reviews are critical and analytical overviews of a given field of study or part thereof. Articles must demonstrate author’s contribution to the study of the selected problem area, while the quoted literature must be comprehensive.
  4. Professional papers aim to provide information and introduce a field of study or problem area, while the author does not aspire to conduct a detailed scientific research of the subject matter.

In the upper left corner of a paper, the author’s first and last name shall be indicated, as well as his/her affiliation, place of residence, and email address.

Titles shall be concise and clear. Each paper shall contain an abstract of up to 200 words, as well as four to eight keywords. The title, abstract and keywords shall be translated into English, to give readers the most important information the author wanted to convey. Preferably, abstracts should describe the problem addressed, research methods applied, results obtained and a brief comment by the author.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to introduce technical and similar changes to any part of the material submitted for publication.

Manuscripts and CDs submitted shall not be returned.

Paper submission

Papers shall be submitted in Microsoft Word Document (.docx) and Adobe Acrobat Document (.pdf) formats, with 1.5 line spacing. Pages should be numbered in order, from title page to the end page. Papers shall include information on the paper and its author, according to the suggested form:

  • Name of the author/s (Latin/Cyrillic, Times New Roman bold, 12)
  • Name and seat of the institution
  • Author’s correspondence details (full address, telephone, email)
  • Title of the paper in the language in which it is written (Latin/Cyrillic, Times New Roman bold, 14)
  • Abstract up to 200 words in the language in which the paper it is written (Latin/Cyrillic, Times New Roman 10)
  • Keywords (Times New Roman 10, from 4 to 8 keywords)
  • Paper text (Latin/Cyrillic, Times New Roman 12, 1.5 line spacing; up to 8000 words including footnotes and excluding the list of references)
  • Chapter titles shall be capitalised and subchapters shall start with a capital letter
  • A line shall be skipped between paragraphs and before each chapter title
  • The first line of each new paragraph shall be indented
  • The list of references (Latin/Cyrillic, Times New Roman 12, 1.5 line spacing)
  • Title of the paper in English (Times New Roman bold 12)
  • Abstract in English (Times New Roman 12, up to 300 words)
  • Keywords in English (Times New Roman 12, from 4 to 10 keywords)

Visual elements. Pictures, photos, charts and diagrams should be sent separately in one of these formats: jpg, bmp, MS Excel, etc. Each visual element must have a serial number and description in the language in which the paper is written and in English (for example: Slika 1. Grafički prikaz istraživanja, Figure 1. Graphical representation of the study), while the text should indicate the location of the visual element.

Tables. Each table should be marked with a number and a description in the language in which the paper is written and in English (for example: Tabela 1. Rezultati istraživanja, Table 1. Research results) and should be enclosed at the end of the paper, while the text should indicate the location of the table.

References. Harvard referencing citation style The text in brackets lists the author’s surnames or the names of the organizations and the year of publication. A list of used literature is provided at the end of the text.

References shall be given in parentheses, with the author’s surname and year of publication, e.g. (Jakobson, 1960) or Jakobson (1960), and if a source is being quoted, then the number of the page cited shall also be given, e.g. (Jakobson, 1960: 43). If two or more works published in the same year by the same author are quoted, it is correct to write e.g. Bart (1970a) or (Bart, 1973b). The work of two authors is quoted by indicating the last names of both authors, e.g. (Wellek and Warren, 1965), and with the work of three or more authors the surname of the first author is included only, followed by “et al.”, for example: (Skreb et al., 1986). If the text refers to the results of research, conclusions, etc. of a large number of works without direct indication of the author’s name in the text – at the end of the sentence the parentheses indicate all surnames of the author and the year of publication of the work separated by a semicolon, e.g. „Književni istoričari nijesu saglasni kad je u pitanju periodizacija crnogorskoga književnog nasljeđa srednjeg vijeka (Rotković, 1979; Nikčević, 1982, Kalezić, 1990)“. When quoting up to two / four lines of text, it is common to use the quotation mark or italics; When citing larger part of the text, the principle of a separate, indented, paragraph is more often used; When paraphrasing an author or group of authors, it is not necessary to use quotation marks or separate passages, only to cite the author / sources in the ways already described.

The list of references may only contain works quoted and / or referenced in the text. These works should be listed alphabetically, by the first author’s last name in this form:

Review process

All papers submitted for publication in Lingua Montenegrina shall be subject to an anonymous peer review process.

The aim of the review process is to help the Editorial Board in deciding whether to accept a paper for publication and to improve the quality of the text submitted through the process of communication with authors.

The Editorial Board shall select reviewers at its discretion.

Papers shall undergo two reviews, and the reviewers are required to submit a completed report no later than 30 days from the receipt of the paper.

The review reports shall be submitted on a Review Form, submitted by the Editorial Board to the reviewers along with the paper to be evaluated.

The Review Form shall contain a number of questions that need to be answered. In the final part of the form, the reviewers must provide their observations and suggestions on how to improve the paper.

Reviewers must not:

  • Come from the same institution as the author of the paper,
  • Be authors who have recently published co-authored publications together with any of the authors of the papers that have been submitted to them for review.

The identity of the reviewers shall remain unknown to the authors before, during and after the review process.

The Editorial Board guarantees that all personal information of the author (first and foremost, name and affiliation) will be removed from the text prior to submitting the paper for review, as well as that all measures will be taken to keep the identity of the author unknown to the reviewers until the publication of the paper.

Throughout the process, the reviewers act independently of one another.

The reviewers shall not be aware of the identity of the other reviewers. If the decisions of the reviewers are not the same (acceptance / refusal), the Editorial Board may seek the opinion of the third reviewer.

During the review process, the Editorial Board may require authors to provide additional information (including primary information), if this is required to take a decision on the scientific contribution of the paper.

The Editorial Board shall provide quality control of the review process. In the event that the authors have serious and well-founded objections to the review, the Editorial Board shall verify that the review is objective and in line with the academic standards. If there is any doubt about the objectivity or quality of the review, the Editorial Board will seek the opinion of other reviewers.
